Locum Principal Child Care Lawyer – Immediate StartLocation:Ā Hybrid (with travel to Reading required)Contract:Ā Initial 3-month contract, with potential for extension

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experiencedĀ Locum Principal Child Care LawyerĀ to join theĀ Joint Legal Team, providing shared legal services to Children’s Services across theĀ six Berkshire Unitary Authorities.

This role involves supporting theĀ Strategic Lead for Children’s LawĀ and managing aĀ Child Care Court Team, acting as a technical specialist in child protection law.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise a dedicated team of child protection lawyers.
  • Manage a caseload of complex child protection matters, including:
    • Care proceedings
    • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)
    • Inherent jurisdiction cases
    • Emergency Protection Orders (EPOs)
  • Provide legal advice and representation to Children’s Services.
  • Participate in a weekly legal surgery.
  • Advise on strategy and procedures relating to child care issues.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with clients.
Requirements:
  • Extensive experience in child protection law.
  • Strong leadership and case management skills.
  • Ability to travel to Reading for IT equipment collection/return, staff away days (next scheduled for 23 July), and occasional in-person training sessions.
Working Arrangements:
  • Hybrid working model with some in-person requirements.
