Contract Mechanical Engineer
Location: Reading,(Hybrid – 3 days on-site)
Contract Type: 6-Month Contract
Pay: £40 per hour (Outside IR35)
 

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to support a range of ongoing commercial projects at our client’s Reading facility. This is a hands-on design role within a busy engineering team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality mechanical solutions and improvements to existing systems.
 

What You’ll Do

• Produce accurate drawings, specifications, and layouts using AutoCAD and 3D CAD tools.
• Ensure all designs meet relevant standards while maintaining buildability, practicality, and sustainability.
• Work within the design function to maintain high documentation and quality standards.
• Support the development and improvement of existing process and mechanical systems.

What We’re Looking For

• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering systems.
• Proficient with AutoCAD and familiar with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks or Inventor).
• Good knowledge of engineering calculations, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Confident communicator with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Detail-focused, proactive, and able to manage multiple project tasks effectively.
• Comfortable working collaboratively with cross-functional teams and contributing to design reviews.
