Job Title: Project Manager - Rail & Civil Infrastructure
Location: Reading (CP7 Framework - Sonning Cutting Project)
Contract Type: Full-Time / Long-Term Project

Overview:

We are currently recruiting a Project Manager to take ownership of a major rail infrastructure improvement scheme in the South West of England. This project focuses on enhancing earthworks and drainage systems at Sonning Cutting, a vital stretch of railway between Reading and Twyford, to improve the resilience of the line against severe weather conditions.

This role is a key position on a high-value CP7 framework project, and will report directly to the Project Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a dedicated site team, ensuring alignment with project objectives and HS&E legislation

  • Act as the primary site representative, coordinating delivery, programme milestones, and budget performance

  • Interface with design teams and provide guidance to the design manager to ensure alignment with construction strategy

  • Oversee procurement of plant, materials, and subcontractors

  • Ensure site activities are conducted in accordance with Health, Safety, and Environmental Plans

  • Carry out site inspections and safety reviews, reporting and investigating incidents where necessary

  • Maintain strict control of budget, quality, and programme delivery

  • Lead on risk mitigation, dispute avoidance, and resolution strategies

  • Support and implement BIM processes and digital delivery strategies

Candidate Profile:

  • Demonstrable experience in managing civil engineering projects with emphasis on drainage and geotechnical works, ideally within the rail sector

  • Proven track record delivering infrastructure projects valued up to 30 million

  • Expert understanding of NEC4 contract administration

  • Leadership experience in multi-disciplinary teams across the project lifecycle

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including liaison with clients, subcontractors, and local authorities

  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, construction methods, and industry best practice

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)

  • SMSTS / PTS (or willingness to obtain)

  • Membership of ICE or similar professional body (desirable)
