Database Administrator

  • Annual Salary: £35,000 - £37,000
  • Location: Redcar, Teesside

Day-to-day Responsibilities:

  • Install and maintain database and GIS infrastructure according to organizational standards.
  • Manage technical links between GIS and various departmental systems, including software patches and upgrades.
  • Uphold data standards compliant with data protection regulations and create detailed database documentation.
  • Develop automated tools for managing database capacity and performance.
  • Monitor database growth, manage access permissions, and ensure security measures are in place.
  • Implement effective storage, archiving, backup, and recovery procedures.
  • Administer databases with a focus on GIS, and manage related software licenses and hardware.
  • Provide advanced support to staff, assist in disaster recovery, and ensure business continuity.
  • Maintain regular communication with technical and operational teams to secure database integrity.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience in database and GIS administration within a corporate or public sector setting.
  • Strong knowledge of database management systems and GIS software.
  • Proficient in maintaining data standards and understanding data protection laws.
  • Skilled in developing GIS services using HTML and Java.
  • Excellent project management abilities and teamwork skills.
  • Capable of managing external suppliers and overseeing web server administration.
