Asylum Through Care Team

Asylum Through Care Team plays a vital role in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) and young people leaving care who are navigating the asylum process. As an Asylum Through Care Team Social Worker, you will provide specialist, trauma-informed support, ensuring these vulnerable young people receive the care, stability, and guidance they need to thrive.

You will manage a complex and diverse caseload, working collaboratively with a range of professionals including legal representatives, immigration services, education providers, health services, and community groups. Your work will be crucial in helping young people understand their rights, access appropriate services, and integrate into their new communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of the needs of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people.
  • Develop and implement child-centred care plans, ensuring their safety, well-being, and development.
  • Provide direct support and advocacy for young people throughout the asylum process, including preparing for interviews and understanding legal advice.
  • Work proactively to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring robust safeguarding practices are maintained.
  • Facilitate access to education, healthcare, and other essential services.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with young people, providing emotional support and promoting their independence.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, adhering to statutory requirements and Redcar Council policies.
  • Work effectively within a multi-agency framework, fostering strong partnerships.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and improvement of the Asylum Through Care Team's services.

About You:

We are looking for an experienced and resilient Social Worker with:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (e.g., DipSW, CQSW, BA Hons Social Work, MA Social Work).
  • Current Social Work England registration.
  • Significant post-qualifying experience in children's social care, ideally with experience of working with UASC, care leavers, or in a similar specialist field.
  • A strong understanding of asylum law, immigration processes, and relevant legislation concerning children and young people (e.g., Children Act 1989, Immigration Act).
  • Excellent assessment, analytical, and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • The ability to work sensitively and effectively with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds who may have experienced trauma.
  • A commitment to promoting the voice of the child and ensuring their participation in decision-making.
  • The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, managing a demanding caseload effectively.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a car for work purposes (or ability to travel across the borough).
