Our automotive lighting client based in Redditch is searching for 2 x Lead Design Engineers on a permanent basis, 39 hours a week.

Main Purpose:

To assist Design Team Leaders in day-to-day design activities.

Key Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for producing 2D/3D CAD using CATIA V5 or software required. Maintain components and assemblies in line with Bee / customer specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate design engineering activities to meet customer technical requirements from initial concept to production.
  • Responsible for presenting designs at customer reviews throughout the development process.
  • Carry out feasibility studies, package checks and reviews for each design.
  • Select, evaluate and apply proprietary components for assemblies and systems to meet customer quality, rationalisation and cost requirements.
  • Maintain concise records and documentation in the form of a project folder to allow complete traceability of the projects development.
  • Create and complete Engineering Change Notes (ECNs).
  • Assist in initiating and maintaining relationships with external suppliers.
  • Support structural designs using simple calculations and FEA software.
  • Support prototype build phase when necessary / support trial builds.
  • Develop and manage BOMS including the selection / approval of materials suitable for functionality / application, P Diagram and DFMEA.
  • Manage project progress against agreed budget & timing to meet customer/internal specification and requirements. Review and feedback to Team Leader weekly.
  • Responsible for flow of data from customer to supplier
  • Support design engineering team and promote cross team working “get the job done” attitude.
  • Be aware of and work within allocated design budget and time constraints.

Generic Tasks:

  • To promote and ensure company processes, policies and procedures are upheld
  • Support Directors and HR to maintain existing and develop new company processes, policies and procedures.
  • To work closely with other team members to ensure that projects are delivered on time and budget.
  • At all times work within the organisation’s Health and Safety policy and to ensure as far is reasonable that safe working practices are established, maintained and followed.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as directed by a Director or direct line manager.

Personal Specification Requested:

  • Background in Design Engineering, specifically in polymers and automotive components. Complex assemblies and A class surfaces.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Be able to work both independently and within a Team
  • Ideally have experience in 3D CAD systems including Catia V5.
  • IT Literate.
  • Ability to demonstrate a flexible working approach.
  • Ability to manage own time effectively.
