Senior Freight Operations Coordinator
Location: Birmingham, Redditch
Salary: 30,000 - 36,000
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
An established and growing freight forwarding business is seeking an experienced Senior Freight Operations Coordinator to join its operations team. This role would suit a strong all-round operator with a background in sea freight and a hands-on approach to managing complex shipments and key customer relationships.
Job Role:
- Manage sea freight import and export shipments end-to-end
- Liaise with carriers, overseas agents, hauliers, and internal teams
- Handle customs processes, documentation, and clearance coordination
- Finalise bookings, review costs, and ensure accurate invoicing
- Monitor charges such as demurrage and quay rent and resolve disputes
- Produce and check shipping documentation (HBLs / MBLs where required)
- Act as an escalation point for operational issues and delays
- Support service delivery on key or high-volume accounts
- Contribute to process improvements and operational best practice
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience in freight forwarding operations (sea freight essential)
- Strong understanding of import/export procedures and customs processes
- Experience working with carriers and managing operational disruptions
- High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
- Confident communicator with a customer-focused mindset
- Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously
- Experience in European road freight is beneficial but not essential
