  • Location: Merstham, Surrey
  • Contract: Full-time, Permanent
  • Salary: £33,075 - £48,719 (M1 – UPS2 Fringe)
  • Hours: 40 hours per week

Reed Education have partnered with a brand-new SEND Secondary School in Merstham, Surrey, who are seeking a SENDCo to join the team. This is a pivotal role in a growing network of the group, supporting neurodivergent young people aged 11-16. This exciting opportunity involves working closely with the Head of School in various leadership and management capacities, focusing on enhancing learning, teaching, and curriculum development.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead and ensure the smooth operation of the school alongside the Head of School.
  • Develop and implement high-quality, engaging, and well-resourced curricula tailored to all students.
  • Act as Deputy Exam Officer, coordinating with the Exam Officer and subject teachers to meet examination and accreditation requirements.
  • Oversee the identification and implementation of post-16 transition plans and career education.
  • Manage the school's special education policy daily, ensuring compliance with each pupil's EHCP and defined SEND assessment.
  • Coordinate the school's provision in terms of policies, staffing, and resources.
  • Maintain effective communication with parents/carers, school staff, external agencies, and local authorities regarding student progress and intervention effectiveness.
  • Advise and assist the Head of School in the strategic development of SEN policy and provision.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • QTS or QTLS is essential.
  • Experience in creative and structured teaching within relevant key stages and/or special needs environments.
  • Proven leadership in a significant area or phase of inclusion, with a focus on raising standards.
  • Strong team management skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills across various mediums.
  • Experience managing complex scenarios and resolving conflicts.
  • Effective relationship building with a range of external agencies.
  • Desirable: Accredited training in specific areas of special education (e.g., Autism, Dyslexia), Management/leadership qualifications, NPQSL/H/SENDCo or willingness to achieve within 2 years.
