A Caretaker / Site Manager is required by a special school for primary aged pupils with severe and complex needs in the Reigate area.
The role requires a highly motivated and skilled Caretaker / Site Manager, committed to maintaining and improving the school environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The school has two sites (both in Reigate)Â and as part of the wider facilities team, the appointed candidate will need to be able to work at either site.Â
The position is full-time, 36 hours per week for 52 weeks per year, worked over a split shift daily working 7.15am to 11.30am mornings and afternoons being 3pm to 6pm Mon – Thurs and 3.00pm to 5.45pm Fridays (some flexibility can be given to these hours)
This is an extremely important and rewarding role in supporting the education of special needs pupils and and requires a resourceful individual, with a flexible and 'can-do' attitude and able to relate well to pupils, staff and contractors alike.Â
The appointed candidate will:
Be responsible to the Leadership Team for a high level of maintenance of the buildings and site, including maintenance and operation of the swimming and hydro pools (certain technical and administration duties included)
Ensure the most cost effective use of the buildings and therefore contribute towards the school's objectives of achieving greater value for money.
The principal elements of the role are set out below:
Site Maintenance - Maintain the site in a good state of repair, cost effectively and ensuring that it is clean and tidy, to agreed standards - Maintain the school swimming and hydro pools within recognised standards, ensuring safe and continuous access for pupils and external hirers - Minimize risks to health and safety of those using the school site and ensure school activities can take place in an environment suited to learning
Security - Manage and operate appropriate site security systems, including opening and closing at the beginning and end of the school day - Respond to call-outs as necessary, including outside of normal working hours in order to provide satisfactory security arrangements -Â Carry out regular monitoring of automatic security, fire alarm and emergency lighting systems - Provide safe access to buildings and classrooms in the event of snow, minor floods and similar emergency situations
Portering -Â Manage provision of a portering and furniture moving service to ensure supplies are in place and school activities can proceed
Monitoring - Establish and maintain procedures to ensure that the school site is kept in a good state of repair, clean, safe and stocked with all necessary supplies - Maintain monitoring procedures, ensuring safe and compliant chemical levels and temperatures in both pools - Maintain monitoring procedures, adhering to all statutory compliance, including for PAT and Legionella testing
Cost Effectiveness - Contribute to the school's objectives of achieving greater value for money in the maintenance of the buildings and site - Attend Facilities Team briefings and required ongoing training for relevant operations
A full driving licence and have access to own vehicle is essential.
