Infrastructure Engineer
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Infrastructure and Drainage Engineer to join a growing consultancy team. You will work closely with transport planners, highway engineers, drainage specialists and clients across both public and private sectors to deliver high-quality drainage and surface water management design, assessment, and advice throughout all stages of the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
路Lead the drainage and surface water management design for development, highway, and infrastructure schemes.
路Prepare sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) strategies, hydraulic calculations (1D/2D modelling), flow control, attenuation and outfall design.
路Undertake Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), drainage impact assessments and provide advice on flood mitigation.
路Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (highways, transport planning, structural, environmental) to integrate drainage with wider infrastructure.
路Produce technical reports, drawings, and specifications using industry-standard software (e.g. MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, etc.).
路Liaise with regulators, local authorities, drainage boards, statutory undertakers, and stakeholders to secure technical approvals or adoptability.
路Quality review of drainage deliverables produced by others.
路Mentor junior engineers and assist in growing internal capability.
路Keep abreast of evolving standards, guidance, legislation (e.g. CIRIA SuDS Manual, National Planning Policy, local drainage standards).
路Contribute to business development including proposals, tender responses and client engagements.
Qualifications & Experience
路Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
路Chartered (CEng) or actively working toward chartership (ICE, CIWEM, etc.) preferred.
路Experience in drainage design, flood risk, and infrastructure projects in the UK.
路Proficient in industry-standard hydraulic modelling tools (e.g. MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage etc.).
路Strong knowledge of UK drainage and flooding policy, guidance and standards.
路Experience submitting drainage designs for adoption by local authorities or drainage bodies.
路Excellent technical writing skills, ability to present complex information clearly.
路Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
路Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.
路Proactive problem-solver with attention to detail and commitment to high-quality delivery.
