We are working with one of Dorset’s leading building contractors to recruit a Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor. This is an exciting new opportunity and would suit someone looking for an entry level position.

As the Trainee / Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will work alongside the quantity surveying team and learn to provide commercial and financial expertise to construction projects, supporting Project Managers, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.

We are seeking someone who has a passion to start and develop their career in construction.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Assisting with the preparation of cost estimates, bills of quantities, and budgets.
  • Procurement: Supporting the procurement process, including issuing invitations to tender, analysing subcontractor quotations, and recommending orders.
  • Cost Control: Monitoring project costs, checking accuracy, and raising/resolving queries.
  • Valuation and Payment: Measuring and valuing completed works, assessing subcontractor payment entitlements, and processing payments.
  • Reporting: Preparing reports on project progress, costs, and financial performance.
  • Contract Management: Assisting with the preparation of subcontracts, and managing commercial and contractual relationships.
  • Client Liaison: Liaising with clients and project managers.
  • Variation Management: Measuring, pricing, negotiating, and agreeing budgets and costs for variations to project scope.
  • Site Visits: Visiting sites to assess works completed and ensure project compliance.

About you:

  • Experience / strong interest in the construction industry.
  • Full Drivers Licence.
  • Confident with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and deal with multiple demands.
  • Although it would be desirable to hold a HND or similar construction related qualification, we are looking for candidates that have a desire to build a career within the industry.
