Location: Rochester (office-based 5 days per week)
Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum DOE
Benefits: Company van + fuel card; travel to sites for auditing (as role develops)

About the Role

You will join a specialist passive fire protection organisation based in Rochester providing high-quality fire-barriers, intumescent coatings, fire doors, penetration sealing and related services across multiple sectors.

As Health & Safety Coordinator/Advisor you will be principally office-based (5 days per week) but with increasing site visits and auditing responsibilities. You’ll review and sometimes compile Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS), ensure compliance with H&S actions, audit site practices, and champion passive fire protection compliance and safety across projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review existing RAMS and supporting documentation for projects, ensuring they meet HSE and company standards.

  • Compile new RAMS (or assist in their compilation) where required, especially in relation to passive fire protection works.

  • Monitor and track H&S compliance actions across projects and sites; ensure timely closure of actions, maintain logs.

  • Conduct office-based tasking and support the H&S Manager (or similar) in delivering H&S strategy.

  • Visit project sites periodically to audit H&S compliance (site conditions, documentation, passive fire protection installations, fire door integrity, compartmentation, etc).

  • Liaise with site operations, project managers and subcontractors to ensure H&S standards are maintained and improvements identified.

  • Report findings from audits, prepare clear action-lists, follow up to ensure corrective/preventive measures are implemented.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and best practices especially around passive fire protection, compartmentation, fire stopping, fire doors, intumescent coatings.

  • Assist with safety inductions, toolbox talks and awareness sessions as required.

Candidate Requirements

  • NEBOSH Certificate or Diploma or IOSH (Managing Safely / Working Safely) – essential.

  • Practical industry experience in health & safety coordination/advisory roles, preferably within construction, fire protection or passive fire protection sectors.

  • Demonstratable knowledge of passive fire protection systems: compartmentation, fire-barriers, fire-doors, intumescent coatings, penetration sealing etc. (the business’s core area).

  • Strong documentation skills: able to review, interpret and compile RAMS, identify gaps, propose improvements.

  • Excellent communicator – able to engage with site teams, operations staff, subcontractors and senior management.

  • Full UK driving licence (due to requirement to travel to site audits) and comfortable traveling regionally as required.

  • Proactive mindset: able to identify issues, drive improvement, work independently in the office and on site.

What You’ll Get

  • Base salary up to £50K depending on experience and suitability.

  • Company van and fuel card provided.

  • Office-based 5 days per week with planned progression to increased site auditing/travel scope.

  • Opportunity to work within a specialist and growing passive fire protection environment, making a critical contribution to safety and compliance.

  • Support and professional development in H&S and fire protection disciplines.

How to Apply

If you meet the essential requirements (NEBOSH or IOSH, H&S advisory experience, passive fire protection awareness) and are looking for a stable, office-based role with site auditing travel built in, please submit your CV and a brief covering note highlighting your relevant experience.
