Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market-leading Energy company, to recruit for a Lead Mechanical Engineer, with a focus on Rotating Plant, to join their Combine Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Station in Rochester, Kent.

The vital Lead Mechanical Rotating Plant Engineer role comes with a basic salary of 58,100 - 87,100 + a performance related bonus + other excellent benefits.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • The management of the sites rotating equipment which includes the 2 GE 9FA Gas Turbines, D11 Steam Turbine and other rotating plant.
  • Leadership of the Rotating Plant team of technicians & engineers.
  • Delivery of the outage strategy and management of projects as well as enhancing the planned maintenance strategy
  • Ownership of the budget and contract management of key strategic suppliers
  • To ensure health, safety & environmental compliance, along with the pressure regulations and lifting gear inspection requirements
  • Assisting in continuous improvement such as plant developments, modifications, and projects
  • Supervising and setting to work on site contractors.
  • To ensure the availability of plant spares



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Ideally a Degree in a Mechanical Engineering discipline however, would consider those with a HND/HNC/NVQ Level 3, etc.
  • A formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH will be advantageous but not a necessity



Personal skills, prior experience and knowledge

The Lead Mechanical Rotating Plant Engineer role would suit someone who has:

  • Prior experience working with mechanical systems including pumps, turbines, boilers, HRSG equipment, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of process plant and equipment gained in a heavy engineering environment such as power generation (CCGT, EfW, Biomass), petrochemical, steel works, CHP plant, paper mill etc.
  • Knowledge of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR)
  • Excellent communication skills with proven ability of leading teams
  • Proven ability in leading a team of engineers & technicians
