ABOUT THE CLIENT
The client is a well-established aerospace-grade manufacturing and engineering organisation supplying precision components. They operate to the highest standards of quality and compliance, delivering critical parts and assemblies under tight tolerances and rigorous regulatory requirements. Their facility maintains strict internal and customer-driven quality assurance procedures, supported by a robust Quality Management System, and they supply to both domestic and international aerospace customers.
ROLE PURPOSE
As the Night Shift Quality Control Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that all manufactured parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies conform to engineering drawings, the company Quality Management System and any special customer specifications. You will play a central role in product verification, inspection compliance, and traceability throughout the manufacturing and supply-chain process during the night shift.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DELIVERABLES
- Verify conformity of parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies to engineering drawings, quality system standards and customer requirements.
- Complete comprehensive, auditable and traceable inspection records for all inspected products.
- Support production by providing timely verification of batch first-offs.
- Prepare and compile First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) as required.
- Conduct inspection duties across all manufacturing and supply-chain areas as required.
- Identify and report non-conformances according to company procedure.
- Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance and HSE policies at all times.
- Process “process & return” (P&R) documentation for parts sent for external processing.
- Highlight and escalate quality concerns to production management and quality engineering teams.
- Support root-cause analysis and preventive action for quality issues.
- Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) planning meetings and advise on inspection methodology.
- Engage with Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives to support ongoing quality and process improvements.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Ability to read and interpret technical data including engineering drawings, specifications and FAIR documentation.
- Experience in goods-in / incoming inspection of finished products or components.
- Experience inspecting precision components, ensuring strict adherence to drawing tolerances.
- Use of a wide variety of direct inspection gauges and measurement equipment.
- Experience operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
- Experience handling sheet-metal or fabricated parts advantageous.
- Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing processes preferred (but not essential).
QUALIFICATIONS & TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- HND qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
- Strong knowledge of both imperial and metric geometrical definitions.
- Thorough knowledge of inspection, testing, and examination techniques.
- Ability to interpret results and appropriately approve or reject parts.
- Competence in reading and accurately interpreting engineering detail drawings.
- Familiarity with applying industry and quality standards to inspection tasks.
DESIRABLE / ADDITIONAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
- Awareness of aerospace precision definition and manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g. Javelin or similar).
- Familiarity with Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- Knowledge of ISO or ASME standards.
- CMM programming ability.
