Full-Time SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception

A welcoming and inclusive primary academy in Romford (RM7) is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support for children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) within the Reception setting. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of early childhood development and a passion for supporting children with additional needs during their formative years.

Role Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for children with autism in a Reception classroom

  • Support communication, interaction, and language development using structured and play-based approaches

  • Assist with sensory regulation, routines, and transitions throughout the school day

  • Implement personalised support strategies, visual timetables, and structured learning activities

  • Support emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour using consistent approaches

  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCo, and external professionals (e.g. speech and language therapists)

  • Monitor and record progress, contributing to observations and review meetings

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience supporting children with autism, ideally in EYFS

  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach

  • Knowledge of early years development and inclusive practice

  • The ability to follow structured support plans and adapt to individual needs

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child-centred care
