In the heart of South Yorkshire, a giant of the heritage world is being reawakened. Once a political, social and economic powerhouse, today it is being brought back to life as a cultural, creative and community-driven hub.

Currently undergoing one of the most exciting and complex heritage regeneration projects of our lifetime, this preservation charity trust is now looking to build commercial foundations, to sustain and expand its impact for generations to come.

About the role

We’re looking for a commercially-minded leader to join the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO. This is a newly created role that will shape and deliver a bold commercial strategy across trading activities, including:

  • Hospitality and catering (on-site cafes, afternoon tea, events catering)
  • Retail (gift shop and bespoke product lines)
  • Weddings, corporate and charity events
  • Location hire for film and TV productions

You'll lead the development of a dynamic, mission-driven commercial offer that enhances visitor experience and supports the organisation’s charitable purpose. This is an exceptional opportunity to make your mark, working for a nationally significant heritage site.

You’re an experienced commercial leader from the hospitality, catering or retail sectors, with a proven ability to grow income, manage multiple revenue streams, and lead high-performing teams.

You’ll need the following skills and experience in your wheelhouse:

  • Strong business planning and budgeting skills
  • Confidence in negotiating contracts and building supplier relationships
  • Person-centred approach to leadership, customer service and collaboration
  • Track-record of innovating income generation from trading activity
  • Ability to work strategically and lead operationally
  • Continuous improvement mindset, striving to achieve operational excellence

Experience in heritage, culture, or the third sector is welcome but not essential – what matters most is your ability to bring energy, drive and commercial excellence to a purpose-led organisation.
