About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Deputy Curriculum Manager for Engineering and Construction to support our Curriculum Manager in ensuring the delivery of exceptional teaching, learning, and assessment within this vital curriculum area. You will play a key role in maintaining the highest standards and driving forward our commitment to providing an outstanding learning experience for all our students.

As Deputy Curriculum Manager, you will take a lead on quality assurance processes and work closely with the Curriculum Manager on the day-to-day operational management of our dedicated staff and the diverse Engineering and Construction curriculum. Your focus will be on driving continuous improvement, ensuring our programmes effectively meet the evolving needs of our learners, local employers, and relevant awarding organisations.

In this rewarding role, you will support the Curriculum Manager with the following key initiatives:

Quality Assurance & Curriculum Development;

  • Lead and oversee internal quality assurance processes, ensuring full compliance with awarding organisation regulations and standards.
  • Collaborate with our professional practice team to conduct insightful dip and deep dive activities, meticulously monitoring and enhancing the quality of teaching, learning, and assessment. You will provide constructive support and targeted feedback to teaching staff to foster their professional growth.
  • Guarantee the implementation of robust internal verification and assessment practices across all Engineering and Construction programmes.
  • Take a central role in the development and review of comprehensive curriculum plans, detailed schemes of learning, and effective assessment strategies.
  • Analyse learner data and key performance indicators to identify trends and implement proactive action plans aimed at maximizing learner success and achievement.
  • Provide crucial support for the successful implementation of innovative vocational qualifications, including T-Levels, apprenticeships, and other industry-relevant programmes.

Operational Management & Staff Development;

  • Work in close partnership with the Curriculum Manager on the efficient day-to-day operations of the Engineering and Construction department, ensuring effective timetabling, optimal resource allocation, and strategic staff deployment.
  • Line manage and provide strong support to our talented teaching staff, conducting regular and meaningful performance reviews, offering valuable mentoring, and facilitating relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities.
  • Contribute to effective staff recruitment, comprehensive induction programmes, and proactive staff retention strategies.
  • Ensure strict adherence to health and safety regulations and best practices within all practical and workshop environments.
  • Act as a vital point of contact and build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including industry partners and employers.

Learner Experience & Employer Engagement;

  • Champion a positive and engaging learning environment that leads to high levels of learner satisfaction, retention, and successful progression to further study or employment.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with local and regional employers to expand valuable work experience opportunities for our students.
  • Promote a truly inclusive and supportive learning environment that effectively meets the diverse needs of all our learners.

You will…

With strong experience of curriculum leadership and a track record of outstanding teaching, learning and assessment, along with IQA processes will assist you to be successful in this role.

With experience of leadership within engineering and construction, able to inspire and lead effective teams would be advantageous. The ideal candidate will have an industry background in engineering, but all appropriate applications will be considered.

You will have a full teaching qualification, with recent and relevant CPD, a vocational level qualification in Engineering or Construction as well as a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths. You will also hold, or need to be willing to work towards, an IQA award.

Department Info

You will report directly to the Curriculum Manager for Engineering and Construction and will be an integral member of the wider Curriculum Management Team, attending meetings as required. Collaboration is key, and you will work closely and effectively with colleagues across the college, including Vocational Teams, the Quality Team, the Additional Learning Support Team, the Exams Team, and Library Staff.
