Deputy Head of Department for English and Maths (Adults/Work-based Learning & Apprenticeships)

About the Role

This is an exciting development opportunity to shape the provision of English and Maths for Rotherham College including external partners & stakeholders. 

In this role you will:

•        Operationally lead the delivery of Maths & English at RC & Offsite locations and premises.  Delivery oversight will include those teaching on Adults/Apprenticeships/WBL/Adults/Flex and High Needs/subs and partners and some SEMH provision.  This could be delivery face to face or on line.

•        Responsibility for the Delivery for our subs and partners (including Rotherham United Football Club), High Needs and those with SEMH.

•        This role will complement the Deputy for Study Programme learners.

•        Ensure the Maths & English curriculum is well planned, sequenced and inclusive, delivering high-quality teaching and learning which supports all our learners to achieve their qualifications and make outstanding progress.

As Deputy Head of Department, you will support the work of the Head of Department for English and Maths.  You will build relationships with internal and external partners ensuring the outstanding delivery of GCSE, Functional Skills, some none accredited provision & our brand new ‘Stepping Stone’ qualifications. 

You will…

Be a strong curriculum leader and a specialist in English and Maths.  You will have experience of managing/leading Maths and English teams; inspiring high-performance within English and maths. You will have excellent knowledge of recent initiatives in curriculum development and design and be able to lead on innovation and inclusivity to ensure all learners have and excellent equitable student experience.  This may be on line or face to face.  You will be able to successfully lead internal quality assurance processes, including standardisation and moderation activities across teams and campuses and work with our external bodies to assure our processes and activities for English & Maths.

You must hold a Level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in English and Maths (or higher), a degree or relevant level qualification as well as a recognised teaching qualification at Level 5 or higher, as well as evidence of recent CPD.

As a leader of people, you will need to have strong interpersonal skills (both verbal and written), able to communicate with internal and external stakeholders and relate to and influence a diverse range of people in a variety of ways.

Department Info

You will be line managed by the Head of Department - Maths and English. You will collaborate effectively with cross college & external partners and stakeholders. As Deputy Head of Department, you will be expected to attend all necessary meetings where possible both on and offsite; ensuring progress and positive outcomes for learners.
