Site Manager - South Yorkshire
We are seeking an experienced Site Manager to lead the on-site delivery of Yorkshire Water infrastructure projects, including clean water, wastewater, CSOs, pumping stations, pipelines, and treatment works. As a key member of the project delivery team for a Tier 1 contractor, you will be responsible for managing site activities safely, efficiently, and in compliance with technical and contractual standards. The ideal candidate will bring solid experience in the water sector, along with a hands-on, collaborative approach to construction delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage day-to-day operations on site, ensuring works are carried out safely and to the required quality, time, and budget.
- Take ownership of delivery on assigned Yorkshire Water projects, overseeing direct labour, subcontractors, and supply chain partners.
- Manage construction activities in line with method statements, risk assessments, permits, and HSE regulations.
- Chair and participate in daily site briefings, inductions, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with Yorkshire Water's and the contractors SHEQ standards, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility.
- Monitor progress against programme milestones, identifying risks, opportunities, and mitigation measures.
- Provide input into short-term lookahead plans and support the development of weekly and monthly construction programmes.
- Work collaboratively with the planning and commercial teams to ensure delivery aligns with targets.
- Ensure all work is carried out to the appropriate specifications and industry standards.
- Oversee quality inspections, test plans, and handover documentation.
- Maintain site records, including daily diaries, progress updates, and as-built information.
- People & Subcontractor Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage site teams to achieve project objectives.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with scope, programme, and site rules.
- Provide clear communication between trades, engineers, and the wider project management team.
- Maintain strong working relationships with Yorkshire Water site representatives and stakeholders.
- Represent the contractor in site meetings and reporting requirements.
- Respond to queries and resolve issues promptly to maintain client satisfaction and progress.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
- Demonstrable experience as a Site Manager or General Foreman on water infrastructure projects (clean or wastewater).
- Strong knowledge of civils, M&E coordination, pipelines, CSOs, and/or treatment works.
- Understanding of Yorkshire Water project standards and working practices (preferred).
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme).
- CSCS card - Gold or Black level.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- Confined Space Training.
- EUSR (National Water Hygiene) card.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- Temporary Works Supervisor or Coordinator certification.
- Knowledge of NEC contracts.
