Job Purpose

The GDO will be responsible for the effective and professional management of the Gatehouse at BBM. Working Monday to Friday, they will oversee all site deliveries, visitor access, CCTV monitoring, and security processes. The GDO will ensure that all deliveries, collections, and visitors are handled efficiently and in line with site procedures, maintaining high standards of safety, security, and customer service.

They will also play a key role in maintaining accurate access records using site software, including issuing ID passes and updating visitor databases.

Key Activities

  • Manage all incoming deliveries and site collections, ensuring compliance with site access and safety procedures
  • Operate weighbridge systems and manage delivery paperwork and system entries accurately
  • Administer the visitor management system, including issuing and managing ID passes using dedicated software
  • Act as the first point of contact for all visitors, ensuring completion of site inductions and safety checks
  • Monitor and manage site CCTV and access control systems, reporting any anomalies to management
  • Conduct regular Gatehouse and perimeter checks to maintain security standards
  • Ensure the Gatehouse and surrounding areas are clean, organised, and welcoming
  • Support the coordination of vehicle movements on site to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Maintain daily logs and reports relating to deliveries, visitors, site incidents, and security observations
  • Assist in emergency response actions when necessary, following site protocols
  • Undertake any additional duties as directed by Site Management.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ownership of the Gatehouse operation, ensuring professional management of deliveries, visitors, and security systems
  • Maintain and update site records including ID passes, visitor logs, and delivery documentation
  • Uphold high standards of site security and support emergency preparedness activities
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, contractors, and site personnel
  • Promote a clean, safe, and secure working environment at all times

Key Skill Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications)

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • IT literacy including confidence in using Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and bespoke site systems (visitor management, ID pass systems, weighbridge systems)
  • Experience in a gatehouse, logistics, security, or site access control environment preferred
  • Forklift Truck licence (desirable but not essential - training can be provided)
  • CCTV operation experience (preferred)
  • Good understanding of site health, safety, security, and environmental regulations
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and prioritise workload
  • High attention to detail and methodical approach to record keeping
  • Positive attitude towards continuous improvement and willingness to learn new systems and procedures
  • Previous experience in an operational or industrial environment is advantageous.
