External Audit Manager - Accountancy Practice

A leading accountancy practice in Royston is hiring an External Audit Manager to lead audit engagements across a varied and exciting client base. Sectors include property, technology, charities, and construction, offering you a rich mix of industries to work within.

You'll also gain exposure to specialist audits such as pension schemes, solicitor accounts (SAR), grant audits, and landlord audits-ideal for those wanting to deepen their technical expertise or expand into new areas.

The firm has been supporting businesses across the region for over 100 years, and you'll be part of a small, tight-knit team with a big local presence. You'll work closely with tax and accounts specialists, giving you broader exposure and the chance to develop beyond audit.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead audits from planning to completion, across a mix of SMEs and subsidiaries of international groups

  • Manage, mentor, and review the work of junior audit staff

  • Take ownership of your portfolio-ensuring high-quality delivery and client satisfaction

  • Play an active role in the senior leadership team, contributing to forecasting, recruitment, billing, budgeting, and internal strategy meetings

  • Collaborate across departments to provide joined-up client service

  • Build and strengthen long-term relationships with key clients

What You'll Bring:
  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent)

  • Solid UK practice experience with a strong track record in leading audits

  • Working knowledge of FRS 101, FRS 102, UK GAAP, and/or IFRS

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills

  • Interest or experience in specialist audits (e.g., pensions, SAR, grants, landlord audits)
