Production Planner – 18-Month Contract

Royston | Hybrid working (after 3 months, up to 2 days/week) 

We are seeking an experienced Production Planner to join our team on an 18-month fixed term contract. This is a key position within our operations function, supporting both the ongoing production of complex systems and the seamless integration of new products into manufacturing.

Reporting into senior management, you will work as part of a cross-functional team of seven, with responsibility for planning and scheduling activities that ensure the timely delivery of products to market, while minimising shortages and delays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and production structures in collaboration with Engineering and Design teams.
  • Create and manage production schedules to support agreed forecasts and delivery deadlines.
  • Monitor production lead times against material availability, addressing and expediting shortages where necessary.
  • Support sourcing and supply chain colleagues in resolving material issues and managing capacity planning.
  • Ensure procurement delays are identified and mitigated to protect production timelines.
  • Provide planning advice and problem-solving support to business functions.
  • Control the sequencing and prioritisation of materials and services across production cells.
  • Analyse data, prepare reports, and publish monthly planning metrics.

Candidate Profile

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience within a technical production or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in planning and scheduling of complex systems requiring mechanical assembly and commissioning.
  • Experience working with ERP systems, ideally SAP, and familiarity with kitting/line-side stock processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data effectively.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials management, and production scheduling.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work effectively to deadlines.

Additional Information

  • Contract length: 18 months (maternity cover)
  • Working hours: 08:30–16:30 or 09:00–17:00 (Monday–Friday)
  • Hybrid working: On-site for first 3 months; thereafter up to 2 days remote per week, with all staff required on-site on Wednesdays
  • Location: Royston (within walking distance of Royston train station and accessible from the A505)
  • Interview process: Expected to be a single on-site stage (approx. 90 minutes), including an Excel test, site tour, and discussion of experience/suitability
