SMT/PCB Rework Technician | Royston 

The Surface Mount and PCB Assembly Technician supports the production of various circuit board assemblies within the electronics manufacturing process. This position plays a key role in ensuring all assemblies are produced to high quality standards, with any issues identified and corrected in line with IPC guidelines. The technician is responsible for timely rework and inspection activities to ensure final products meet required customer and technical specifications.

The Role:

+Perform visual checks on SMT and completed PCB assemblies to confirm correct component placement and solder quality. Operate automated optical inspection equipment (e.g., CyberOptics AOI) for SMT panels.
+Conduct functional testing and programming of completed PCB assemblies.
+Complete first-article inspections on SMT panels to support accurate and efficient production processes.
+Use AOI and/or vision-based inspection systems to carry out dependable component-level checks and diagnose issues on circuit boards.


Key Skills and Experience:

+Strong focus on safety and high-quality workmanship.
+Background in a technical or electronics manufacturing environment.
+Hands-on experience with PCB assembly equipment and related production processes.
+Excellent fine-motor skills and the physical capability to handle PCB loading/unloading, as well as perform routine cleaning and maintenance on equipment.
+Very good visual acuity, including the ability to inspect and work with magnification for tasks involving extremely small components (e.g., 0201 SMT parts).
+Training and/or certification relevant to assembling, inspecting, and reworking high-quality SMT and PCB assemblies in line with IPC standards.
+Skilled in precision hand soldering of SMT components (down to 0201 packages) and odd-form parts, ideally meeting IPC Level 3 standards or able to achieve this level.
