Quality Inspector (Late Shift)

Location: Royston, Hertfordshire

Hours: Monday to Friday 2pm – 10pm

Reed Engineering are working with a FTSE listed manufacturing group based in Royston, Hertfordshire. Our client is a reputable and respected global manufacturer of high-tech components and systems for an impressive range of markets including Aerospace, Defence, and Energy.

This role is crucial in ensuring that product quality requirements meet customer expectations and comply with relevant regulatory and contractual standards.

Day-to-day of the role

  • Inspection of parts (Work in Progress / Final product), and associated paperwork against the applicable requirements and configuration at the relevant stages in the manufacturing process
  • Use of conventional inspection methods and in accordance with the inspection reports
  • Carry out inline process and product inspections throughout the factory
  • Raise non-conformances reports in accordance with the quality system
  • Release products direct to manufacturer within our DPRV department
  • Calibrate build and inspection tooling
  • Organise the collection and release of measuring instruments for external calibration
  • Be involved with MSA & Gauge R+R studies
  • Support and advise in new product inspection methods
  • Support in problem solving activities within the company’s continuous improvement program
  • Actively participate in safety improvement activities
  • Perform all reasonable requests made by management

Required Skills and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Ability to interpret technical documentation (drawings, specifications and procedures)
  • Have a good understanding of GD & T
  • Inspection experience in using standard measuring equipment (Vernier callipers, micrometers, plug gauges etc.)
  • Must be able to communicate in English effectively (written & verbal)
  • Flexible in working hours to support business needs when required
  • Good computer literacy with a competent knowledge of Microsoft 365, Word, Excel etc.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and develop to be able to work in all inspection departments.
  • Good communication skills

Desirable:

  • A working knowledge of ISO9001/AS9100
  • CMM or/and FARO arm experience using PC-DMIS or Polyworks (Willing to train suitable person)
  • Knowledge / Use of Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
  • Previous Calibration experience
