Head of Compliance

Location: Remote (with ability to travel as needed)

Are you a seasoned compliance professional with a passion for environmental excellence? Do you thrive in complex regulatory environments and want to lead a team that keeps sustainability and safety at the heart of operations?

We're looking for a strategic and driven Head of Compliance to lead our clients regulatory and environmental governance. In this pivotal role, you'll shape and enforce policies that ensure full compliance with UK waste management laws across Landfill, Hazardous, and Non-Hazardous Waste Transfer Operations. You'll be the face of the company for regulatory bodies and a trusted advisor to senior leadership.

What You'll Be Doing

Regulatory Compliance & Governance

      Lead the compliance strategy across all waste operations.

Ensure adherence to UK environmental, waste management, and H&S regulations.

Develop robust policies, procedures, and compliance training programs.

Manage permits, licenses, and all regulatory submissions.

Stay ahead of legislation and industry changes to maintain proactive compliance.

Risk Management & Environmental Stewardship

      Implement a strong risk management framework that mitigates compliance risks.

Champion sustainability by reinforcing best-in-class environmental policies.

Investigate breaches and oversee effective corrective actions.

Collaborate with operational teams to drive high environmental and safety standards.

Stakeholder & Regulator Engagement

      Serve as a lead liaison with regulatory bodies (Environment Agency, HSE, etc.).

Build strong relationships with internal teams to instil a culture of compliance.

Represent the organisation in industry groups and regulatory consultations.

Leadership & Strategy

      Lead by example to foster a culture of integrity and continuous improvement.

Advise executive leadership on compliance strategy and risk.

Support and mentor teams to build compliance capabilities across the business.

What You'll Bring

Experience & Knowledge

      Senior-level experience in compliance within the waste management sector (Landfill, Transfer Stations, MRFs).

Deep knowledge of UK waste and environmental regulations (EPA, Duty of Care, EMS, Waste Permits, Fire Plans).

Proven experience in audits, regulatory reporting, and inspection management.

Strategic thinking paired with excellent problem-solving and leadership skills.

Qualifications

      Degree in Environmental Science, Law, Health & Safety, or a related field (preferred).

Industry-recognised certifications such as COTC (Landfill/Transfer), CIWM, IOSH, or NEBOSH.
