Salary:

  • Up to £35,000 per annum for candidates with 2 years post-graduation experience

     

  • Up to £45,000 per annum for candidates with 4-5 years of experience at Assistant level within the same sector

Our client is a well-established main contractor with a strong reputation in the industry, specialising in fit-outs and refurbishments. They work with high-profile clients such as Manchester Airport, and deliver projects across key sectors, including education (schools and universities). Due to growth and a solid pipeline of projects, they are seeking an ambitious and driven Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team.

Role Overview:

The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in assisting with the day-to-day commercial management of projects. You will be working on exciting, high-profile projects, including fit-outs and refurbishments for clients such as Manchester Airport, schools, and universities.

You will be part of a supportive QS team, with clear pathways for progression. Depending on your level of experience, you will either report directly to the Commercial Director or work closely with senior Quantity Surveyors in the team for hands-on mentoring and support.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the preparation and management of budgets and financial forecasts.

     

  • Assist with the procurement of sub-contractors and manage the subcontract tendering process.

     

  • Prepare cost reports and monitor project costs against budgets.

     

  • Value completed works and prepare interim valuations.

     

  • Assist with contract administration, ensuring compliance with all contractual terms.

     

  • Assist with the negotiation and settlement of disputes, as needed.

     

  • Provide commercial support to the project teams, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

     

  • Prepare final accounts and support the closing out of projects.

     

  • Attend project meetings and communicate effectively with all project stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.

     

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Ideally 1-2 years post-graduation experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry.

       

    • If you have more experience (4-5 years at Assistant level), you will report directly to the Commercial Director.

       

     

  • Qualifications:
    • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field (or equivalent qualification).

       

     

  • Skills & Knowledge:
    • Strong understanding of construction contracts and the ability to interpret and manage contract terms.

       

    • Knowledge of the fit-out and refurbishment sector is highly desirable.

       

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

       

    • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
