Trainee Teaching Assistant

We are looking for a motivated and caring Trainee Teaching Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Westbury. This Trainee Teaching Assistant role is perfect for someone who wants to begin a career in education, enjoys helping children with additional needs, and is eager to learn and grow in a supportive environment.

The Role – Trainee Teaching Assistant

As a Trainee Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils aged 4–19 across the school while developing your skills and understanding of SEND practice. Your daily duties will include:

  • Providing 1:1 Trainee Teaching Assistant support and assisting small groups to help pupils take part in learning.

  • Working with children who may have ASD, communication difficulties, sensory needs, SEMH, PMLD or physical challenges.

  • Helping to create a calm, structured and positive classroom atmosphere.

  • Assisting pupils with personal care, feeding and mobility if needed (full guidance and training can be provided).

  • Building supportive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.

  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and experienced Teaching Assistants to learn effective strategies.

  • Using visual aids, communication systems and routines to support pupils’ understanding throughout the day.

This Trainee Teaching Assistant position is hands-on, varied and ideal for someone who wants to build confidence and experience in a rewarding SEN environment.

Salary
