Job Title:  Trainee Accountant

Overall Purpose of Job

To provide support to the Group’s senior finance team, predominantly Ongo Homes’ Finance Business Partner and Management Accountant

Main Responsibilities.

Management Accounting:

  • Work closely with the team of Finance Business Partners to undertake any work relevant to the skills of the postholder
  • Predominantly to work with Ongo Homes’ finance team to enable accurate and timely production of Ongo Homes’ monthly management accounts and in-month reporting
  • Prepare financial information in relation to the business’ requirements by means of preparing journals for accruals and prepayments, wages and salaries, loan amortisation and other regular journals as necessary.
  • Perform ad-hoc cost analysis as and when requested.
  • Post bank transaction and produce reconciliations.
  • Assist with the production of the fixed asset register , including entry of any necessary journals into the finance system. Prepare necessary documentation regarding the property transactions.
  • Provide administrative support to the Finance Business Partner and Management Accountant
  • Assist with the production of the group consolidated monthly accounts
  • To enable the Finance Business Partners to meet the deadlines of the business by proactively prioritising their workload to facilitate the work required and to develop and maintain a month-end task list, ticking off as each task is complete.
  • To shadow more senior staff to develop their own career by gaining a broad understanding of the entire Ongo group of companies.

Financial control:

  • Improve processes within your given area of responsibility.
  • Ensure tasks are completed effectively, using the minimum amount of manual processing to achieve the result required by the business.

Delivery of objectives:

To align yourself with, and deliver towards, the following:

  • The Ongo Corporate Plan
  • Your own individual, and agreed, annual PDR

  • Any other duties commensurate with the role’s level of responsibility and / or as reasonably directed or requested by a more senior member of staff.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • Either:
    • A minimum of two years’ experience working in a financial role/environment such as management accounts, accounts receivable, accounts payable or a similar role; or
    • A degree in accountancy/finance, obtained in the past two years
  • A desire to forge a long-term career in accountancy, including undertaking further accountancy specific qualifications
  • A minimum of two A-levels or studying towards an accountancy qualification
  • Ability to work independently but also cooperatively, without close supervision.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to prioritise own work, and to work accurately under pressure to meet conflicting deadlines.
  • Skills to listen to and act on instructions
  • Ability to approach other members of the finance team for support
  • Capability to manage working from home without direct supervision
  • Be able to relate duties and deliverables of the role to a wider business context.
  • IT literate, specifically in relation to finance systems and their efficient use.
