We are seeking a commercially aware, hands on Assistant Accountant to contribute to the financial planning and strategic growth of a well established and successful SME in Scunthorpe.

Description

  • Oversee and manage the company's financial operations.
  • Prepare and present financial reports.
  • Develop and maintain budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with financial laws and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve financial performance.
  • Identify potential areas for cost reductions.
  • Ensure all financial practices are in line with statutory regulations and legislation.
  • Support the financial decision-making process within the company.Maintain and process purchase ledger and sales ledger transactions
  • Perform effective credit control, including monitoring outstanding accounts and following up on payments
  • Assist with the preparation of management accounts and reporting
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes
  • Reconcile supplier statements and investigate any discrepancies
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure accurate stock control and inventory costing
  • Utilise ERP systems to manage financial data and reporting
  • Use Microsoft Excel extensively for data analysis, reconciliation, and reporting

Profile

  • Proven experience in purchase ledger, sales ledger, credit control, and assisting with management accounts
  • Strong knowledge of month-end accounting processes
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Sage, SAP, NetSuite, or similar)
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, and data analysis)
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience in stock control or working with inventory systems is desirable
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • AAT qualified or working towards a relevant finance/accounting qualification, CIMA, ACCA (preferred but not essential)
