Job Title: Building Control Officer / Senior Building Control Officer (Temporary)

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (Mon–Fri, 08:30–17:00)
Pay Rate: £20.59 – £23.07 per hour (depending on grade and experience)
Are you a qualified and experienced Building Control professional looking for your next challenge? We're recruiting a Building Control Officer or Senior Building Control Officer to support the delivery of a statutory, customer-focused service.
You'll play a key role in ensuring that buildings across the region are safe, compliant, and delivered to high standards -Â from domestic extensions to commercial developments and demolitions.
Main Responsibilities
Depending on grade, your responsibilities will include:

Assess and process Building Regulation applications, ensuring compliance with legislation (Building Act, Building Safety Act, etc.).

Prepare fire safety plans and consult with statutory and non-statutory bodies.
-
Conduct regular site inspections for both domestic and non-domestic developments.
-
Investigate breaches of regulations and undertake enforcement action, including court appearances.

Assess and respond to dangerous structures during working hours and, if on call, out-of-hours (with additional pay).

Supervise demolitions and ensure public safety is maintained.

Act as a mentor to junior staff, supporting their training and development.

Represent the service at internal and external meetings and deputise for the Senior Officer where required.

Contribute to marketing strategies and help develop the IT and digital processes of the Building Control service.
What We're Looking For Grade 7 (Building Control Officer):
-
Level 6 qualification with corporate membership of CABE/CIOB or equivalent experience.
-
Experience assessing and inspecting domestic developments.
-
Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, and enforcement procedures.

Experience dealing with dangerous structures and demolitions.
-
Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and respond to out-of-hours emergencies.

Good IT skills, verbal and written communication, and strong customer care abilities.

As above, plus corporate membership of CABE/RICS or 5+ years of relevant Building Control experience.

Experience in assessing complex/non-domestic applications, risk assessment, fee determination, and validation.

Ability to undertake commercial/statutory Building Control tasks independently.

High level of professional judgement and decision-making, especially with non-standard applications.

Ability to manage time effectively, meet statutory deadlines, and work under pressure.

Experience in site safety assessments, evidence gathering, and working with diverse stakeholders (including fire services, solicitors, councillors, and members of the public).

Ability to navigate both office-based tasks (e.g., database systems, plan checking) and physical site work (e.g., climbing scaffolding, working in challenging environments).
Working Environment

60% office-based, 40% on-site across North Lincolnshire.

Regular physical demands during site inspections — including climbing, entering confined spaces, and exposure to harsh weather.

Occasional handling of financial resources (e.g., receiving cheques on site).

Use of shared technical equipment such as digital cameras, meters, and measuring tools.
