Are you a qualified and experienced Building Control professional looking for your next challenge? We're recruiting a Building Control Officer or Senior Building Control Officer to support the delivery of a statutory, customer-focused service.

You'll play a key role in ensuring that buildings across the region are safe, compliant, and delivered to high standards -  from domestic extensions to commercial developments and demolitions.

Main Responsibilities

Depending on grade, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assess and process Building Regulation applications, ensuring compliance with legislation (Building Act, Building Safety Act, etc.).

  • Prepare fire safety plans and consult with statutory and non-statutory bodies.

  • Conduct regular site inspections for both domestic and non-domestic developments.

  • Investigate breaches of regulations and undertake enforcement action, including court appearances.

  • Assess and respond to dangerous structures during working hours and, if on call, out-of-hours (with additional pay).

  • Supervise demolitions and ensure public safety is maintained.

  • Act as a mentor to junior staff, supporting their training and development.

  • Represent the service at internal and external meetings and deputise for the Senior Officer where required.

  • Contribute to marketing strategies and help develop the IT and digital processes of the Building Control service.

What We're Looking For
Grade 7 (Building Control Officer):
  • Level 6 qualification with corporate membership of CABE/CIOB or equivalent experience.

  • Experience assessing and inspecting domestic developments.

  • Strong knowledge of the Building Act, Building Regulations, and enforcement procedures.

  • Experience dealing with dangerous structures and demolitions.

  • Able to work independently, prioritise workload, and respond to out-of-hours emergencies.

  • Good IT skills, verbal and written communication, and strong customer care abilities.

Grade 8 (Senior Building Control Officer):
  • As above, plus corporate membership of CABE/RICS or 5+ years of relevant Building Control experience.

  • Experience in assessing complex/non-domestic applications, risk assessment, fee determination, and validation.

  • Ability to undertake commercial/statutory Building Control tasks independently.

Key Skills and Attributes
  • High level of professional judgement and decision-making, especially with non-standard applications.

  • Ability to manage time effectively, meet statutory deadlines, and work under pressure.

  • Experience in site safety assessments, evidence gathering, and working with diverse stakeholders (including fire services, solicitors, councillors, and members of the public).

  • Ability to navigate both office-based tasks (e.g., database systems, plan checking) and physical site work (e.g., climbing scaffolding, working in challenging environments).

Working Environment
  • 60% office-based, 40% on-site across North Lincolnshire.

  • Regular physical demands during site inspections — including climbing, entering confined spaces, and exposure to harsh weather.

  • Occasional handling of financial resources (e.g., receiving cheques on site).

  • Use of shared technical equipment such as digital cameras, meters, and measuring tools.

Why Join Us?
  • Work with a respected local authority delivering impactful work in the built environment.

  • Engage in diverse projects across domestic, commercial, and enforcement contexts.

  • Supportive team environment with opportunities for mentoring and professional development.

  • Flexible, varied role with autonomy and responsibility.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking, supportive team and contribute to safe and compliant development across North Lincolnshire.
