  • The successful candidate will have a proven track record in logistics and warehousing, ideally with experience in import/export operations.
  • Key responsibilities include improving warehousing setups, reducing costs, and developing a logistics strategy while working hands-on across multiple locations.
  • The role requires strong analytical skills, a solutions-first mindset, and the ability to drive change in a practical, SME environment.
  • Candidates are encouraged to apply even if they meet only some of the experience requirements, as the company values diverse backgrounds.

Hays is exclusively working with this ambitious SME in Scunthorpe, operating multiple warehousing sites across the UK.

Due to phenomenal success and growth, their logistics infrastructure is in need of an overhaul-and we're looking for someone who can take the reins, streamline operations, build ownership, and help them diversify and scale.

This business is practical, hands-on, and not corporate in style. You won't be watching from behind a desk-you'll be deep in the mechanics of what moves the business.

The job:-

You'll be responsible for analysing, improving, and leading logistics and warehousing across multiple locations in North East Lincolnshire with a couple of 3PL facilities based in the UK. You'll spot inefficiencies, own the operational data, and implement strategy in a deeply hands-on way. This role blends analysis, ownership, logistics insight, and leadership-perfect for someone who can bring something to the table and wants to put their own stamp on a brand-new role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take operational ownership of warehousing setups, freight and distribution practices
  • Audit current warehousing conditions, goods held, and facility effectiveness
  • Analyse and reduce shunting costs
  • Develop and lead a logistics strategy with scope for internal growth and external diversification
  • Improve performance at 3rd-party facilities; reignite engagement with sites
  • Champion systems-driven decision-making through logistics data
  • Support potential warehousing service offerings as a new revenue stream
  • Evaluate ocean freight and import flows, ensuring seamless UK handover
  • Expand the logistics function as needed, building a performance-focused team
  • Apply critical thinking and a solutions-first mindset to under performing areas

What We're Looking For

  • Proven track record in logistics, warehousing, and ideally, but not essential import/export operations
  • Analytical mind with solution-focused thinking
  • Experience with UK distribution, shunting, and freight optimisation
  • Strong understanding of ocean freight and port operations (hands-on approach preferred)
  • Comfortable wearing multiple operational hats with minimal oversight
  • Ability to take ownership of information, drive change, and grow capacity
  • Practical mindset, thrives in SME environments-NOT a desk-bound strategist
  • Familiarity with systems and data-led process improvement
  • Energetic presence, capable of steering the business forward
