Our client is a public body based in Cumberland supporting the local community through a range of operational, administrative, and research activities. They have multiple properties within their portfolio, covering a range of geographies within the region both urban and rural communities.

Head of Estates and Facilities– The Role:

Our client is seeking a skilled and forward-thinking professional to lead the strategic development and efficient management of its physical infrastructure. This includes overseeing buildings, grounds other facilities, as well as managing third party providers.

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team responsible for maintaining the estate to the highest standards, ensuring it supports both the organisation’s mission and its broader objectives.

Head of Estates and Facilities – Key Responsibilities:

- Take responsibility for creating, shaping, and carrying out a long-term infrastructure strategy that addresses both present and future requirements, prioritising estate enhancements and tackling outstanding maintenance issues

- Drive forward the integration of environmental sustainability across all facilities, premises, and activities to contribute towards the organisation’s wider sustainability objectives

- Provide strategic leadership in the planning and execution of the capital development programme, ensuring its successful delivery

- Act as client representative and trusted advisor in the delivery and operations

- Take accountability for the management of core facilities services such as utilities, mechanical and electrical systems, heating, plumbing, lighting, and fire safety, ensuring all equipment remains compliant, operational, and safe within available budgets

- Lead the delivery of both planned preventative maintenance programmes and responsive repair services to maintain continuity and minimise disruption

- Oversee a range of support services, including site security, statutory compliance, cleaning, caretaking, landscaping, portering, mail distribution, and reprographics

Head of Estates and Facilities – You:

- Proven track record in overseeing large and complex property portfolios, including routine maintenance, refurbishments, and major capital investment schemes

- Holds a relevant professional qualification or has equivalent experience; a degree-level education (or comparable) would be considered advantageous

- Comprehensive knowledge of public sector frameworks and regulations, covering areas such as procurement, tendering, cost management, and collaboration with contractors and consultants on construction projects

-Strong financial management expertise with experience in budget setting, forecasting, and optimising the use of resources

- Skilled leader with the ability to inspire, develop, and guide teams, fostering high performance and professional growth

- Thorough understanding of health and safety legislation, statutory compliance, and building regulation requirements

- Highly effective communicator with strong influencing, negotiation, and relationship-building skills

- Forward-thinking, innovative, and analytical, with the ability to apply sound judgement and deliver practical solutions to complex challenges
