Elevation Recruitment Group are recruiting for a high-growth, deep tech start-up developing world-leading semiconductor business.

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Applications Engineer to join their pioneering team based in Sheffield.

As the Applications Engineer you will be:

  • Supporting customers with technical queries related to advanced APD detector products
  • Collaborating closely with Sales, Field Applications Engineers (FAEs), and Engineering to deliver expert product support
  • Leading customer engagement during new product introductions and design-in activities
  • Conducting lab-based experiments and product evaluations to support applications development
  • Developing technical documentation including application notes, training materials, and reference designs
  • Managing the delivery and support of evaluation kits and reference design boards
  • Attending trade shows and visiting customers to provide hands-on technical support and demonstrations
  • Acting as a technical expert across the companies product range and contributing to future product roadmap development

To be considered for the Applications Engineer role you will need:

  • A degree (BSc/BEng/MSc/PhD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Optoelectronics or Physics
  • 5+ years’ experience in the Photonics, Semiconductor, or Data/Telecommunications sector
  • Proven applications, evaluation or design engineering experience within detectors, optical components or communications systems
  • A strong understanding of analogue and mixed-signal semiconductor products and optical sensing technologies
  • Practical experience in optical receiver systems including APDs, photodiodes, laser range finding, LiDAR, or high-speed optical comms
  • Familiarity with tools such as circuit simulation, data visualisation tools, and MS Office
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-first mindset
  • An organised, problem-solving approach and the ability to work across cross-functional teams
