Associate Director / Technical Director - Town Planning

An internationally recognised consultancy is looking to appoint a senior-level Associate Director or Technical Director in Sheffield to lead and grow its regional Town Planning team. This role offers a unique opportunity to take the lead on nationally significant infrastructure and development projects across the UK, while shaping the growth of the planning function in the North.

You'll be part of a well-established, multi-disciplinary environment team, collaborating with experts across transport, energy, environment, and engineering on some of the UK's most critical and innovative schemes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow the Sheffield-based planning team, working closely with colleagues across the North.

  • Deliver expert planning services on large-scale infrastructure, housing, and development projects.

  • Manage bids, client relationships, and multi-disciplinary delivery.

  • Contribute to thought leadership and service innovation in planning, with a focus on Net Zero, ESG, and digital planning tools.

  • Develop new business opportunities and help shape long-term strategy in the region.

About You

  • RTPI Chartered Planner with an RTPI-accredited qualification.

  • Proven consultancy experience with leadership capability.

  • Strong understanding of planning law, project delivery and commercial management.

  • Track record of delivering complex infrastructure or development schemes.

  • Excellent client engagement, communication and team-building skills.

  • A collaborative mindset and interest in shaping future planning solutions.
