An established and respected environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its friendly and growing team in Sheffield. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist looking to take the next step in their career, leading projects and mentoring junior staff while contributing to a diverse range of ecological work across the UK. The successful candidate will be involved in managing and delivering ecological surveys, assessments, and mitigation strategies for a wide range of development and conservation projects.

They will work closely with clients, planning authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to provide expert ecological advice and ensure high-quality outcomes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead ecological field surveys and assessments (including Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species work).

  • Prepare and review technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments and mitigation strategies.

  • Provide project management support and liaise effectively with clients and stakeholders.

  • Mentor and support junior ecologists in their professional development.

  • Contribute to the continued growth and success of the ecology team.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in ecology or a related environmental discipline.

  • Full membership (or working towards) of CIEEM.

  • Strong knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, planning policy, and ecological best practice.

  • Proven experience in project management and client liaison.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel for site work.
