Welding & Sheet Metal Operative - Precision Engineering

Location: Sheffield

Shift Pattern: Days (with overtime available)

A leading precision engineering company is seeking a skilled Welding & Sheet Metal Operative to join its production team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-integrity components for aerospace and other advanced sectors, using a variety of welding and fabrication techniques.

About the Role

You'll be responsible for welding and fabricating small batch components to tight tolerances using materials such as stainless steel, titanium, Jethete, and Nimonic. The role involves both manual and semi-automatic welding, as well as a range of sheet metal operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform TIG (GTAW) welding on precision components.
  • Manual welding using foot pedal, rotary, and longitudinal setups.
  • Carry out resistance welding and work to ISO 24394 standards.
  • Fabricate using rolling, bending, riveting, drilling, and planishing.
  • Dress and grind using air tools and linishing belts.
  • Cut metals using guillotines, band saws, and snips.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and follow standard work instructions.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production targets.
  • Participate in TPM checks and team meetings.
  • Cover team absences with overtime when required.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience in TIG welding, including exotic metals (0.5mm-2.5mm).
  • Ability to follow standard work instructions and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of workplace safety and PPE requirements.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Positive attitude toward continuous improvement and 5S.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in aerospace or nuclear sectors.
  • Familiarity with NADCAP requirements.
  • ISO 24394 welding approvals.
  • Flexible and resilient approach to work.
  • Strong work ethic and conscientious approach.
  • Reliable and detail-oriented.
