Inspire Resourcing are currently recruiting a Technical Project Engineer on behalf of our client based in Sheffield.

Duties:

Mechanical Design & CAD Engineering:

  • Develop and manage 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks.
  • Ensure designs meet product requirements including functionality, manufacturability, cost targets, and performance criteria.
  • Conduct tolerance stack-ups, FEA analysis (when applicable), and design for manufacturing/assembly (DFM/DFA) evaluations.
  • Maintain revision control and accurate documentation.
  • Collaborate with production and suppliers to refine designs for production readiness.

New Product Introduction (NPI) Leadership:

Serve as the technical lead on delegated NPI projects from concept through product release.

  • Develop and maintain project plans, Gantt charts, and timelines, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery.
  • Support and engage with cross-functional team collaboration (Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Manufacturing, etc.).
  • Lead technical reviews, design validation activities, and milestone reviews for delegated projects.
  • Work to project deadlines.
  • Manage engineering change notifications (ECNs) and implement design modifications as needed.

Third-Party Testing Coordination:

  • Identify product certification and compliance requirements (e.g. BS EN, UL, CE, UKCA, etc.).
  • Define test protocols and manage sample builds for external testing laboratories.
  • Coordinate scheduling and logistics of third-party testing activities.
  • Interpret test results, troubleshoot failures, and drive corrective design actions.
  • Maintain test documentation and ensure test outcomes are aligned with regulatory and customer requirements.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare and update technical documentation including BOMs, assembly instructions, and technical datasheets.
  • Generate and present project updates, design reports, and risk assessments to stakeholders.
  • Develop installation guides and assist with marketing materials.

Continuous Improvement & Support:

  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction, performance enhancement, or design optimisation.
  • Support existing products with design improvements, quality resolution, and change implementation.
  • Stay current with industry trends, new materials, and evolving CAD/engineering tools.
