Principal EC&I Engineer (Group Level) | Up to £65 per hour (OUTSIDE IR35) | Sheffield / Hybrid

About the Opportunity:

Ford & Stanley Interim are currently working a leading engineering and technology group in seeking a highly experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to operate at group level, with a strong focus on compliance, governance, and technical assurance. This is a senior leadership role, ideal for someone who thrives on setting standards, reviewing and approving complex designs, and ensuring engineering integrity across a diverse portfolio of projects.

You’ll act as the technical authority for Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I), providing oversight, assurance, and sign-off on critical engineering deliverables across the group.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Group’s EC&I Technical Authority, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Lead the development and enforcement of EC&I engineering policies, procedures, and governance frameworks.
  • Review, approve, and sign off on technical documentation, designs, and safety-critical systems.
  • Provide expert guidance and assurance across all EC&I activities, including audits and technical reviews.
  • Support project teams with high-level technical input and ensure consistent application of best practices.
  • Mentor and support engineers to uphold quality and compliance standards.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree-qualified in Electrical, Control, Instrumentation, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional recognition.
  • SC Clearance (or the ability to obtain it)
  • Extensive experience in EC&I engineering within regulated, safety-critical environments.
  • Strong background in compliance, governance, and technical assurance.
  • Proven ability to review and sign off on complex engineering work with confidence and authority.
  • Deep understanding of relevant standards and regulations (e.g., IEC 61508, BS EN 60204, PUWER, ATEX).
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
