Control & Combustion Technician

Sheffield - DAYS ONLY

Salary 40,000 - 50,000 + bonus of up to 10%

About the Role:

As a Control & Combustion Technician, you'll be at the heart of our manufacturing operations, ensuring our plant runs smoothly and efficiently. You'll be responsible for maintaining and improving the performance of various furnaces and equipment, using your expertise to minimise downtime and enhance reliability. Your proactive approach and 'can do' attitude will be key in meeting business needs and market demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform both reactive and proactive maintenance on a range of furnaces and equipment.
  • Conduct compliance activities like Thermal Uniformity Surveys, Calibrations, and System Accuracy Tests.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues with electrical and control systems, including PLCs and Burner Management Systems.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules to maximize machine availability.
  • Record daily activities and create work orders using our CMMS system.
  • Participate in maintenance meetings and contribute to plant priority reviews.
  • Identify, specify, and order critical parts using our inventory system.
  • Collaborate with specialist OEM service engineers when needed.
  • Promote lean practices to minimize waste and maximize efficiency.
  • Engage in training and upskilling activities to enhance your technical knowledge.
  • Perform safety and quality risk assessments.
  • Adhere to safe practices, environmental, and legislative requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ, ONC, HNC, HND, C&G) or apprenticeship.
  • IOSH qualification is a plus.
  • Experience with furnace mechanics and control systems.
  • Knowledge of control logic, PLCs, and PID theory.
  • Understanding of instrumentation and their working principles.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and process trend recordings.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills across electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding engineering drawings.
  • PC literate with good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Excellent timekeeping and attendance.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
