Overview:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced General Manager to lead the operations of our independently owned real ale pub that serves high-quality, freshly prepared food. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of craft and cask ales, a commitment to excellent customer service, and a flair for creating a welcoming, community-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities:Operations & Leadership
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the pub, ensuring smooth, efficient, and profitable operations.

  • Manage and lead front of house and kitchen teams to deliver consistently high standards of service and hospitality.

  • Recruit, train, and develop staff to uphold the pubs standards and values.

  • Maintain excellent communication between all departments, ensuring a cohesive and motivated team.

Customer Experience
  • Ensure a warm, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere for all customers.

  • Handle customer feedback promptly and professionally.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with regulars and the local community.

Beer & Beverage Management
  • Manage cellar operations, including storing, and conditioning of real ales and other beverages.

  • Maintain relationships with breweries and suppliers, ensuring a varied and high-quality drinks offering.

  • Keep up-to-date with trends in real ales and craft beer to enhance the pubs reputation.

Food & Kitchen Coordination
  • Work closely with the Head Chef to develop menus that reflect the pubs identity and seasonal ingredients.

  • Oversee food safety and hygiene standards in collaboration with kitchen staff.

  • Help manage stock levels, food ordering, and waste reduction.

Requirements:
  • Proven experience as a General Manager or Assistant Manager in a similar pub, bar, or restaurant environment.

  • A genuine passion for real ale and quality pub food.

  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on management style.

  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.

  • Knowledge of cellar management and Cask Marque standards is a strong plus.

  • Basic food hygiene and personal licence preferred (or willingness to obtain).
