Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Electrically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join our client's team in a high-volume electroplating and surface finishing environment. The role involves providing hands-on support in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving plant equipment, must have strong focus on electrical systems while supporting mechanical tasks as required.
The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring maximum uptime of critical electroplating lines, ancillary equipment, and supporting utilities, while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Working hours: 7.45 - 4.15pm Monday-Thursday, 7am - 1pm Friday
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on a wide range of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment including plating lines, rectifiers, pumps, motors, compressed air and control panels.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults, control wiring, drives, sensors, and instrumentation.
- Support mechanical repairs such as pumps, pipework, and hydraulics as required.
- Ensure equipment is maintained to achieve maximum efficiency and reliability, minimising downtime.
- Work closely with production teams to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects and modifications to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in line with company procedures.
- Ensure compliance with electrical regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental requirements, particularly regarding chemical handling and plating operations.
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers when required.
- Participate in weekend work as required to support production requirements & minimise downtime.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Time-served Electrical Engineer 18th edition.
- Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing/industrial environment (preferably electroplating, surface finishing, chemicals, or heavy process industry).
- Strong knowledge of electrical fault finding and repair, including motors, drives, control circuits, and PLCs.
- Good understanding of mechanical systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and engineering drawings.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Awareness of health, safety, and environmental compliance within a manufacturing/chemical environment.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in electroplating, surface treatment, or chemical process industries.
- Knowledge of chemical dosing systems, rectifiers, and fume extraction equipment, effluent treatment facilities.
- PLC programming/modification experience.
- Experience with lean manufacturing, TPM, or continuous improvement initiatives.
