Location: Sheffield
Hours: Monday-Friday, 2:00pm-10:00pm
Pay: 20.00-23.00 per hour (DOE)
Employment: Permanent (or Temp-to-Perm)

Role purpose
Ensure precision-machined and fabricated components meet customer specifications and quality standards through timely in-process, first-off and final inspection on the afternoon shift.

Key responsibilities
* Perform first-off, in-process and final inspection of machined/manufactured components.
* Read and interpret engineering drawings (tolerances, GD&T, surface finish, material specs).
* Use a range of metrology tools: micrometers, verniers, bore gauges, height gauges, surface plates.
* Record results in inspection reports, ERP/MRP, and maintain full traceability.
* Raise NCRs, support containment and corrective actions; liaise with Production/Quality to resolve issues.
* Conduct line checks and patrol inspections to prevent defects and scrap.
* Support FAIR/PPAP and customer documentation where required.
* Calibrate and care for gauges; flag out-of-tolerance equipment.
* Contribute to 5S/continuous improvement and safe working practices (H&S).
* Hand over effectively to the next shift/Quality team.

Desirable (advantageous)
* FARO Arm portable CMM use and basic PolyWorks reporting.
* CMM operation (any brand) and/or blue-light/laser scanning exposure.
* Experience in precision machining, fabrication, heavy engineering or similar.

About you
* Time-served manual machinist or inspector seeking a step up into a more detailed inspection role.
* Solid understanding of measurement techniques, machining processes and shop-floor workflows.
* Comfortable working to ISO 9001 (or similar) with strong attention to detail and right-first-time mindset.
* Confident communicator, able to challenge, collaborate and close the loop on quality issues.
* Computer-literate (MS Office/ERP/MRP) with accurate, tidy documentation habits.

Qualifications and experience
* Prior experience in a machine shop/precision engineering environment.
* Formal apprenticeship or NVQ/City & Guilds in Mechanical/Manufacturing (preferred).
* Evidence of metrology training or CMM exposure (nice to have).
