Sheffield City Council are looking for five Housing Solutions Officers to join our dynamic Housing Advice and Options Service. This role is crucial in providing tailored housing advice, assessing households in housing need, and delivering effective support and housing options. If you have a passion for homeless prevention and a customer-first approach, this is an excellent opportunity for you.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Interview clients, undertake housing need and homeless assessments within statutory and policy frameworks, and provide ongoing support.
  • Carry out home visits or visits to hospitals and other relevant sites.
  • Prevent homelessness, hospital admissions, and delayed discharges from a range of supported and institutional accommodation and care.
  • Collect and analyse information from various sources to progress cases from application to final outcome, including administration of reviews.
  • Provide information on all available housing, support, and other related services.
  • Make decisions within legal and policy frameworks to provide positive outcomes for clients using a full range of options.
  • Assist clients in accessing specialist support services as required.
  • Interpret and support clients through the Council’s Lettings Policy, including assistance with the bidding process.
  • Liaise with other statutory and voluntary sector organisations, and arrange interim accommodation where required.
  • Manage own targets specific to the post and respond to customer queries and/or complaints.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated customer focus with the ability to prioritise and organise work effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Resilience and a strong work ethic with a keenness to learn.
  • Experience in a similar role or a strong understanding of housing solutions services is preferred.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations with excellent negotiation skills.
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the update service
  • Full UK Driving Licence, and access to a vehicle
