Role Overview:
We are looking for an experienced and supportive SEN Teaching Assistant to work with students who have a range of special educational needs. In this role, you will work closely with the class teacher to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students with additional needs. The ideal candidate will be patient, empathetic, and passionate about providing tailored support to ensure all students thrive in a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support to students with special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum.
  • Support the delivery of individualised education plans (IEPs) and assist with implementing strategies to meet the specific needs of students.
  • Assist with behavioural support and promote positive behaviour in line with the school's policies.
  • Help students develop essential life skills, social skills, and independence.
  • Support students in both academic and non-academic activities, including extracurricular events and social activities.
  • Foster a supportive, inclusive, and caring learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
  • Assist with the preparation and adaptation of resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Monitor and record students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to provide the best support for students.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times, both in the classroom and during break times.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children, particularly with students who have special educational needs.
  • A good understanding of special educational needs, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other common conditions.
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions while using initiative where needed.
  • Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
  • A commitment to supporting students' individual learning needs and ensuring they have access to an inclusive education.
  • A relevant qualification, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or a willingness to work towards one.


Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience working with students who have more complex or specific educational needs.
  • First Aid qualification (or willingness to undergo training).
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies and experience applying them in the classroom.
  • Training or experience in using assistive technology or other learning tools for SEN students.
