There's already a solid fee earner on the ground (Associate level), but they’re not looking to step into a business development or leadership role, which leaves a real opening for someone ambitious to help build the department's profile and grow the firm’s local reputation. Across the Somerset offices, the team currently consists of around a dozen people, with a good mix of experience and energy, and a genuinely warm, down-to-earth working culture. The firm isn’t chasing new build sites or first-time buyers – they focus on a more traditional, private client-focused residential market. That means a lot of consistent work, long-term relationships, and a client base that trusts the firm to deliver. If you’re a qualified solicitor or CILEx lawyer with solid residential experience and a preference for quality over quantity, this will likely be a refreshing environment. Progression here is very much on offer for the right person. Those who are keen, consistent, and committed are supported and rewarded. If you’re currently a Senior Associate and looking to grow into a more senior leadership or even partnership role, that path is open. The firm is also open to bringing in someone already operating at Director or Partner level, especially if you're looking to step into a role with more influence and less bureaucracy. Hybrid working is in place, with the general expectation being that more senior staff have more flexibility. As a guide, you’d usually spend more time in the office during probation – 3 days a week – with that becoming more relaxed once you’ve settled in. The Sherborne office is the primary focus, but if Bath works better logistically, it’s something the firm can accommodate. One of the standout elements of this firm is its genuinely fair and non-aggressive approach to performance.
