Quality Engineer – Automotive Manufacturing
Location: Bristol
Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 (Negotiable depending on experience)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm (40 hours per week)

We are working with a well-established and rapidly growing vehicle conversion and solutions provider. With over 50 years of industry expertise, they are recognised for delivering high-quality, bespoke automotive products tailored to customer specifications. Their continued growth has created an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quality Engineer to join their team.

The Role
We are seeking a Quality Engineer with proven automotive manufacturing experience, ideally within a Tier 1, Tier 2 or OEM environment. This is a key position reporting to the Manufacturing Director, where you will be instrumental in developing and maintaining a quality-focused culture across the business.

You will lead a team of PDI inspectors and be responsible for ensuring robust quality management systems, process control, supplier quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Quality System Management

  • Maintain and improve the company’s ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 systems
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements

Auditing

  • Conduct internal and external audits
  • Prepare reports and implement corrective actions

Manufacturing Processes and Metalwork

  • Oversee quality within metal fabrication and assembly
  • Implement best practices to improve process capability and product consistency

Supplier Control

  • Monitor and evaluate supplier quality performance
  • Carry out supplier audits and resolve quality issues collaboratively

Root Cause Analysis and Problem Solving

  • Lead investigations into non-conformances
  • Use structured methodologies such as 8D, Fishbone and Pareto analysis
  • Drive corrective and preventive actions

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Support Lean manufacturing and efficiency initiatives

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records, audit findings, and performance metrics
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership

Skills and Experience Required

  • Proven experience as a Quality Engineer in a manufacturing environment, ideally within automotive
  • Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001 and experience with auditing processes
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication, inspection methods, and quality control
  • Experience in supplier quality management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills (8D, root cause analysis)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
