EXPERIENCED CHEF SOUGHT FOR NEWLY RENOVATED COMMUNITY-OWNED PUB IN SHROPSHIRE
Position: Head Chef
Location: The Fox at Ryton, Shropshire
Salary: £30,000-£34,000 per annum DOE.
Hours: 40 hours per week, Wednesday-Sunday
Reports to: General Manager
The Role: We are seeking an experienced and passionate chef to help establish The Fox as a food destination, creating and executing a menu that combines pub classics with seasonal specials using local produce. The successful candidate will work closely with the General Manager to develop and maintain the food offering.
About The Fox: The Fox at Ryton is a beautifully renovated 17th century community-owned pub set in stunning Shropshire countryside. Following extensive renovation, we are opening in December 2025 with a vision to create a destination pub combining excellent food and drink with true community spirit. With 50 indoor covers plus outdoor seating, we aim to offer high-quality, locally-sourced seasonal food that appeals to both locals and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement seasonal menus focused on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients
- Maintain high standards of food preparation and presentation
- Manage kitchen operations, including stock control and ordering
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain kitchen hygiene standards
- Work with local suppliers to source quality ingredients
- Monitor and control food costs to meet target margins
- Train and supervise kitchen staff
- Assist in menu planning and pricing
- Maintain equipment and report any maintenance issues
Required Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience as a chef in a quality food-led pub or restaurant
- Strong knowledge of modern British cuisine and pub classics
- Experience in menu development and costing
- Good understanding of food safety regulations and kitchen management
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure
- Commitment to quality and attention to detail
- Experience working with local suppliers preferred
- Level 3 Food Hygiene certification
