Dewey Group is currently recruiting for a Design Engineer (or Senior Design Engineer) with piling and temporary works experience to join the engineering team on a nationally significant infrastructure project based in Suffolk. This is a major long-term development within the energy sector, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s most high-profile construction programmes.

As a Design Engineer, you will be responsible for producing and reviewing temporary works and piling-related designs that support safe and efficient delivery on site. You will work closely with operations teams, clients, and external consultants to ensure all design work meets technical, safety, and programme requirements.

This role is suited to both experienced engineers and those looking to take the next step into a senior engineering role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce temporary works designs and engineering solutions for piling and ground engineering works in line with project requirements and site conditions.

  • Provide technical support to the project and site teams throughout the lifecycle of the works.

  • Liaise with construction teams to understand constraints and ensure constructability of designs.

  • Review, check, and approve internal and third-party design work where applicable.

  • Prepare and maintain design calculations, drawings, risk assessments, and method statements.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant design codes, standards, and client specifications.

  • Coordinate with consultants, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.

  • Contribute to design assurance, quality control processes, and safe-by-design principles.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in a design engineering role within the piling, geotechnical, or ground engineering sector.

  • Strong understanding of temporary works design, loadings, and structural behaviour.

  • Proficiency with engineering design software (e.g. AutoCAD, Revit, Tekla, and structural analysis tools).

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards (e.g. Eurocodes, BS 5975).

  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and non-engineering audiences.

  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or similar).

  • Valid CSCS card.

Desirable:

  • Experience working on large infrastructure or regulated sector projects (e.g., nuclear, energy, major civils).

  • Chartered or working towards Chartership with ICE or IStructE.

  • Experience liaising with temporary works coordinators and principal contractors.
