Health, Safety & Environmental Manager (SHEQ)Birmingham-based with UK-wide travel£45,000 per annumMonday to Friday | 08:00 - 17:00Pertemps are excited to be recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager (SHEQ) on behalf of a well-established, specialist engineering company with a strong reputation for delivering innovative solutions to complex challenges.This permanent role offers a fantastic opportunity for a dedicated health and safety professional with a passion for sustainability and net zero goals to make a significant impact.About the Role:As the SHEQ Manager, you will work closely with the senior leadership team and project teams to promote, implement, and oversee all aspects of Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality compliance across operations. You'll play a crucial part in supporting the company's strategic objectives, including progressing towards ISO 14001 accreditation and embedding an enhanced safety-first culture.This role requires occasional travel to sites across the UK and offers a chance to contribute to innovative engineering and installation projects within a high-paced and highly regulated environment.Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with project and site teams to ensure SHEQ compliance and foster a proactive culture of safety, sustainability, and quality.
  • Lead SHEQ audits and site inspections, identify non-conformances, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Champion net zero and environmental management strategies, supporting the business's journey to ISO 14001 certification.
  • Conduct incident investigations, root cause analyses, and implement preventive actions.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation, including Health & Safety at Work Act, CDM Regulations, and Environmental Protection standards.
  • Deliver training and workshops to upskill employees and contractors in health and safety, environmental best practices, and quality systems.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports to ensure readiness for audits and inspections.
  • Provide support with client pre-qualification and tender submissions.
What You'll Bring:
  • NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent Level 6 qualification) and IOSH Managing Safely certification
  • ISO Lead Auditor qualification and experience in ISO compliance (including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001)
  • Strong background in manufacturing, engineering, or construction environments
  • In-depth knowledge of UK HSE legislation (COSHH, PUWER, LOLER, CDM)
  • Ability to influence, innovate, and drive positive cultural change
  • Excellent communication skills and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Willingness to travel nationwide with a full UK driving licence
