QA/QC Mechanical Inspector

Working Hours: Full-time, site-based
Security Clearance: BPSS (minimum), with potential for CTC/Nuclear Clearance

Role Overview
The QA/QC Mechanical Inspector will support the mechanical quality control and assurance activities during the construction and installation phases at Hinkley Point C. The role ensures compliance with Nuclear Safety Standards, Quality Plans, ITPs, and all relevant codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
• Perform inspections and surveillance of mechanical activities including pipework, pressure vessels, pumps, valves, supports, and mechanical equipment installation.
• Verify works are carried out in accordance with the approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), procedures, drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
• Raise and manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Witness mechanical testing activities (e.g. hydrostatic, pneumatic, NDT) and review test documentation.
• Monitor welding and fabrication activities including welder qualifications, WPS adherence, and visual inspections.
• Ensure traceability of materials and review Material Test Certificates (MTCs).
• Liaise with contractors, engineers, and client representatives to resolve quality issues.
• Participate in quality audits (internal and external) as directed by the QA/QC Manager.
• Maintain detailed, accurate, and auditable inspection records in accordance with nuclear industry requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of QA/QC procedures and lessons learned feedback.

Experience:
• Minimum 5 years in QA/QC mechanical inspection, preferably within nuclear, power generation, oil & gas, or high-integrity infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrable experience with nuclear or high-regulation environments (Hinkley Point experience is highly desirable).

Qualifications:
• HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Recognised mechanical inspection or quality certification (e.g., CSWIP 3.1/3.2, PCN, BGAS, or similar).
• ISO 9001:2015 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor (advantageous).
• Awareness of RCC-M, ASME, EN, BS, and PED codes and standards.

Skills:
• Strong understanding of QA/QC principles in a highly regulated environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents.
• Competent with QA/QC documentation, control, and reporting processes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic quality management systems (e.g., BIM 360, CEMAR, or similar).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with cross-functional teams.

• Eligibility to work in the UK.
• Willingness to work on a live construction site with appropriate PPE and safety awareness.
• Understanding of nuclear safety culture and the principles of ALARP and quality nuclear safety case requirements.

Desirable Attributes
• Previous experience on Hinkley Point C or other NNB projects.
• Familiarity with EDF/Nuclear New Build processes.
• Knowledge of French nuclear codes (RCC-M) if involved with international equipment supply.
• Experience with digital quality records and structured turnover packages.
